Middle Colonies and the Stars

Good Evening explorers,

I hope you enjoyed your mini vacation.  It's time to come back to school and exercise those brain muscles.  We are going to look at the stars and see what constellations we can observe.  My explorers will also move south to the Mid-Atlantic Colonies.

New World

Greetings explorers,

We have now arrived on North America.  We are setting up colonies but where should we make our home New England, Mid-Atlantic, or Southern colonies?  Let's find out more about these areas before we make our discussion.   In Science, we are exploring the solar system.  I wonder what we will find. Guess what cubs... we are going on a field trip.  It is to the Savannah Children's Theatre and you will perform a play about the European Explorers.  Get ready to set sail.  A permission slip was sent home on Friday, November 14th.  It needs to be completely filled out and returned with the money by November, 20th.

Welcome to America!

Good Evening Students & Parents,

We have landed in the New World "America" and I hope we will be able to adapt to this new terrain.   My astronomers will look up into the night sky and possibly discover a new planet.  We have been very busy with benchmarks and play practice.  So we are working on a modified schedule.  But don't fear, we will be back to normal on Friday.  The play the Sneeches will be performed on Thursday, November 6th.  Our stars need to be in their classrooms at 4:30.  I hope to see you there.

Weather and European Explorers

Good Evening my future scientists and explorers,

I hope you enjoyed "tasting the atmosphere".  I enjoyed listening to your very intelligent discussions while eating your jello... I mean layers of the atmosphere.  We will be finishing up Weather this week and will get ready to explore the solar system.  There may or may not be a pop quiz on Thursday.  The Water Cycle Projects are due Friday.  We have reached the "New World" and will now see how the explorers enacted with the Native Americans.  We will work on a group project in class which will show the relationship between the Native Americans and European Explorers.  There will be a vocabulary test on Friday.  The words are on the weekly homework sheet.

One down... three more to go. Fifth grade here we come!

Fall Festival was a huge success.  The rainy weather couldn't stop our cubs from coming to this fun event.  Thank you cubs and cub parents for coming out to support our school.  Now tomorrow is a big day for LES.  Please make sure that all of my cubs come to school ready, responsible, and respectful. We are already the three R's.  In Science, we are still learning about weather with a focus on clouds this week.  In Social Studies, we will continue discussing the European Explorers.  One more week and then we have successfully completed the first marking period in fourth grade.  Yay!

European Explorers and Weather

Good Morning explorers and scientists,

Native Americans have been in North America for many years.  On Monday, we will meet a group that will change the Native American's way of life.  In science, we will begin a new chapter and talk about the weather.  I wonder what the weather would be like Monday.  Don't forget to go on Study Island for Science and Social Studies assignments.  You can also download and access Class Dojo.  It is a great way to communicate with myself and my team (Dr. Kelly and Mrs. Mulligan).

Huge Success!

Science Discovery Night was a huge success!  The students had lots of fun and I know that the teachers did too.  I can't wait to see what is in store for next year.

This upcoming week will be very jam packed with fun.  We will be having a Social Studies test on Wednesday.  The study guide will go home on Monday.  On Friday, we will have our Science test on Ecosystems.  The students have learned a lot about Native Americans and Ecosystems.  By the end of the week, we will explore the New World with the European Explorers and weather.

Good Day my historians and ecologists,

We figured out different ways that the Native Americans came to America.  Now its time to get to know the six tribes.  We will also have a landform test on Wednesday.   For Science, we will have a test on Chapter 7 on Thursday.  As a class, we will observe a terrarium and journal what you observe.

It's time to show what you know on the CRCT.  I know that you have all worked hard and have studied even harder.  Now show us what you know.  We are so proud of you and know that you can do it.  Good luck and I will see you on Monday, smiling and ready to go.

Forces and Motion vs. Revolutionary War...

Hello my young scientists/historians,

We have almost reached the end of our journey.  It's almost time for the Big Dance aka CRCT.  I know that you will be ready when it is test day.  We are wrapping up Forces and Motion, so you need to be ready to conduct an experiment.  With regards to Social Studies, we know why we went to war.  Now it is time to go to war with the British (Revolutionary War).  By the end of the week, we should have our independence.

See you on Monday.

Light and Sound... Revolutionary War

I can't believe that we are now in the month of February. We are studying light and sound in Science. This will not last long because we will be moving on to force and motion. Hope you are ready. In Social Studies, we are going to debate whether or not we should go to war with England. I think the answer will be yes, hence the Revolutionary War. Be prepared for guest speakers and one of them will come from England. Get ready. This will be fun... I can promise you that.
